10 characters whose outfits I'm in love with
Often when watching a movie or a TV show I tend to focus not only on the plot itself but also on some other details. Whether it’s the camerawork, lighting, scenography, or wardrobe, I love to see some meaning behind it. Today, I’d like to talk about the latter- here are some examples of outfits that, to this day make me excited. Let’s dive into it!
1. Monica Geller from Friends
Don’t get me wrong- I loved Rachel and Phoebe’s outfits. I need to talk about Monica’s wardrobe, because I often feel like it’s overlooked. Her colour palette mostly consists of red, white, black and some other neutrals. We often can see her in jeans, which creates this casual vibe, as well as in these amazing dresses and skirts that I’m so jealous of. When it comes to tops, apart from normal T-shirts, she likes to wear button-up shirts, cardigans, and vests. Because Friends is set in the 90s it’s obvious that we see a lot of clothes and trends which were really popular back then- leather jackets, neutral colour palette, denim, and overalls. I decided to show you my 3 favourite casual outfits that she wore.
Choosing the three was hard and almost impossible, but either way- here you go! I’m in love with the first dress; it’s very simple but not boring. In the second photo, she wears a leather jacket that is an excellent addition to the graphic tee paired with this plaid skirt. The colours complement each other really well. The last outfit shows a lovely red vest (she looks amazing in that colour) and jeans- it’s elegant and casual at the same time!
2. Andy Sachs from The Devil Wears Prada
When talking about style and outfits we can’t ignore this iconic movie, that I’ve probably rewatched a thousand times. In The Devil Wears Prada there are a lot of characters whose outfits I could write about. I decided to keep it simple and talk about the main character- Andrea. At the beginning of the movie she starts working for a fashion magazine- not necessarily by her choice. She doesn’t care a lot about her clothes and doesn’t pay much attention to that. Later on she has a makeover- wears designer clothes and carries trendy bags. Her style isn’t really my cup of tea, I like it, but probably wouldn’t wear it. She mostly wears skirts, long coats and hats. Here are some of her best outfits in my opinion.
I chose the ones that I maybe could wear. The first coat is classy and elegant. In my opinion this type of outerwear never goes out of style. The set that we see in the second picture is kind of basic but still looks amazing. And the last outfit is something more casual and maybe feels more like Andy. I like that the jacket, bag, and shoes match, but I’m not a big fan of these pants. Honourable mention: black dress that she wore to some type of Gala (I think).
3. Molly Gunn from Uptown Girls
Molly was a fashion icon whose girly clothes really caught my attention. Her outfits may be a reflection of her carefree and a little bit immature personality. She wears a lot of floral patterns, leans into pastel and soft colours, and wears a lot of dresses and skirts. Her style really speaks to me and blends here and there with mine. Although, as far as I remember, I loved all of her looks, here are three of them that I consider my favourite.
Molly’s embroidered denim dress paired with the pink top is to die for- her iconic look is feminine as well as fun. The Blumarine dress is gorgeous and absolutely worth the hype (and believe me, it’s on my inspo Pinterest board). The third dress would definitely turn my head if I passed someone wearing it on the street!
4. Lorelai Gilmore from Gilmore Girls
When talking about best-dressed characters, I cannot forget about Lorelai. Her style is very 2000s, downtown-girl-core. She loves turtlenecks, graphic tops, elegant sets, low-rise jeans (of course!), and leather jackets. A few of her most worn colours are: red, blue, black, white, and earthy tones (like brown and green). She’s not afraid to accessorize- with bandanas, jewelry, glasses, and bags. Below you can find my favourites!
I plan to write more about her style when autumn comes, so I chose more of her spring/summer outfits- which was hard because of her long-sleeve obsession. As I’ve written before, she wears a lot of blues and reds (both tops are iconic). The dress from the dance marathon episode is one of my favourite looks on TV ever! When I first watched the show I noticed it instantly. So to sum up: Lorelai is not only funny, ironic, and a total girlboss, but also a seriously well-dressed character.
5. Penny Lane from Almost Famous
Even though I watched this movie a long time ago, I can’t stop thinking about Penny’s signature coat. I don’t have a lot to say about her clothes and style- it’s fun and just mostly focused on the era during which the plot of the movie takes place. But her coat is a prominent piece, that every fan of the movie probably tried to hunt down. I think that you can wear this coat and look great regardless of current trends. Although this coat is my main focus, I added two of her outfits that I also really like. (It’s ALL happening!)
To sum up, I had a lot of fun writing this post. These are just five characters I wanted to talk about, so stay tuned for more! Thank you for reading my thoughts on their outfits- feel free to like, subscribe, or comment your own thoughts below!
